Join us for the Christ Child Society DC's 2023 Gala: A Toast to Father John, to be held February 24th at Columbia Country Club. We are looking forward to coming together to honor Fr. John with our Mary Virginia Merrick Award as we celebrate the extraordinary service he has given to our organization over the years.

This year's Gala will be a Black Tie event with a seated dinner, dessert, and dancing at Columbia Country Club where we will once again feature our popular basket auction.

On behalf of the over 10,000 children and families we serve each year, thank you so much for supporting our event!

Mary Virginia Merrick Award

The Mary Virginia Merrick Award is the highest award that the Society bestows. The person selected must be an active member of the Society, have served as a member of the Board of Directors or a Program Committee, and have given extraordinary service beyond the duties of the position held. The Advisory Committee at its annual meeting determines the recipient of the award.

Monsignor John Enzler, affectionately known as Father John, is the President and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, an agency which annually helps more than 120,000 people in the Washington-metropolitan region. A native Washingtonian, Father John has almost 50 years of experience as a priest, leader and advocate serving the needs of the most vulnerable in our community. His commitment to the poor and underserved extends beyond his work for Catholic Charities to include service on the boards of many national and local organizations such as Potomac Community Resources, Order of Malta, Mount St. Mary's University, and The Christ Child Society.

Father John has been a member of The Christ Child Society DC Chapter's board as our spiritual advisor for 13 years. He has also celebrated our annual Founder's Day Mass since 2011, helped us raise direct donations through our Red Wagon Fund "Raise the Paddle" at our annual gala, and has been instrumental in our involvement with the Merrick Center in Southeast, DC and the development of our Girls on the Rise Program there. Father John has been an amazing supporter of the organization and our mission to serve the material, educational, and emotional needs of children and is so deserving of our highest honor, the Mary Virginia Merrick Award!
